AAPG
AAPG Student Chapter Amsterdam Karlien Meulenaars - President Anouk Borst - Secretairy Thomas Klootwijk - Treasurer Cameron Heins - Vice-President The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is a professional network of geoscientists from the industry and the academic world found in 1917. It now has over 30,000 members worldwide. For students and PhD students, it is a great way to get in touch with the professional world. The AAPG is mostly orientated on the petroleum industry but not explicitly so. All Earth scientists are welcome to join and enjoy the benefits of membership. The AAPG Student Chapter (SC) Amsterdam was founded in September 2008. Our goals are to organise Student exchanges, Lectures, Symposia and fieldtrips for our members. Membership of the AAPG has other advantages as well, members can buy books with a discount, ask for sponsorship for fieldworks or thesis, members receive the AAPG bulletin and get access to the Bulletin archive. Membership of our student chapter is sponsored by Chevron and therefore free. To become a member please contact us by e-mail: The AAPG SC has 30 members so far. With them we have organised the following activities in the past year: A lecture by Herman Darman from the Shell Exploration group and an exchange fieldtrip with the SC from Lisbon to the Lusitanian basin, North of Lisbon in Portugal. This summer we will have our own fieldtrip to Asturias in Northern Spain on which students from Lisbon and Aberdeen and people from the petroleum industry join us on a geological trip to a well exposed carbonate platform. We also brougth GeoVUsie’s GEOFLEX in touch with one of the AAPG lecturers who will give a lecture in the VU this autumn. We are also planning a Symposium day about Politics and petroleum industry in early 2010.
